Acura SLX Introduction

A full size luxury SUV, Acura SLX was sold by Acura from 1996 to 1999. In the begining of 1996 it is the lighty modified Isuzu Trooper released and sold by Acura as a luxury sport utility vehicle, at the same time as the Lexus LS. It was only sold in United States. In 2001 Acura MDX, a Honda Accord based model replaces SLX.

After 1999 the SLX model was discontinued because of its poor selling. 19976-1997 models were not accepted and sold poorly. One reason that it sold poorly was consumer reports for their tendency to roll over during testing in 1998 Full-Size SUV comparison. The lawsuit is brought against Consumers Union by Isuzu. Some of the magazines statements showed reckless disregard for the truth founded by court.

From 1996 to 1997 the SLX had a 3.2 liter V6 gasoline engine giving maximal output of 190 horsepower. After that in 1998 this engine is replaced by a 3.5-liter dual overhead cam V6 engine that produces 215 horsepower.
