Acura MDX Weight Reduction

The MDX engine weights 17 pounds less than its previous model even it has a robust 3.7 liters of displacement and an increase from 253 to 300 horsepower.

The MDX model has weight saving components such as magnesium cylinder head covers which uses hardened aluminum cylinder sleeves that helps in improving vehicle balance as well as power to weight ratio.

A molded crankshaft reduces its weight and increases strength. New construction process further results in weight reduction of the four camshafts by 25%. The reduction in these moving components reduces internal inertia which allows the engine to operate with a smoother and more responsive feel.
