Acura Integra Transmission
The Acura Integra Type R model has 5 speed manual transmission system with Overdrive. The main aim of designing Type R close ratio transmission is to take the full benefit of additional high-rpm power and provide soft and seamless shifting.
The close ratio transmission system in Acura Integra Type R model features clutch, different ratios and bearing design than the Integra GS-R model. The differences are helpful in handling Typr R engine's higher output and to deliver smooth and progressive acceleration.
Other models of Integra have a short stroke shift linkage of exceptional capacity. like those the Type R model also has such feature. The system set about the quality feel as well as short stroke of shift linkage system of Acura NSX. Type R model uses special type of lightweight flywheel to improve throttle response. These flywheels are coupled with a heavy-duty hydraulically actuated clutch.
Flywheel information for Integra GS-R and Integra Type-R model:
- GS-R flywheel: 18 pounds
- Type R flywheel: 14 pounds
The Type R coordinated aluminum die-cast stiffener to increase engine to transmission fastening rigidity to meet with the engine's additional output and high rpm. 22% of vibration is reduced as compare to traditional separate fore and aft fastening systems. All the other Type R like Integra model consist of equal length half shafts which helps to eliminate torque steer.
