Acura Integra Engine

Integra Base Engine:

The Acura Integra Type R has an advanced 1.8 liter, 4 cylinder, 16 valve, dual overhead cam engine which produces 195 horsepower of energy. It is equipped with Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) system which was initiated in Acura NSX. The Type R's horsepower is 25 more than Acura Integra GS-R's 170 horsepower.

It is because of some of the technological achievements such as highly compressed low friction pistons, single port intake manifold, larger throttle body, high volume induction and exhaust system, high performance valve gear and camshaft, highly polished intake and exhaust ports.

Engine has certain features such as Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI), a crankshaft reinforcing bridge, a highly rigid crankshaft with eight full balance weights, an oil cooling system, twin-spring intake and exhaust valves, oil jet piston cooling, a highly rigid integrated aluminum die-cast engine stiffener, and many other technologies that increases the performance as well as maintain it's reliability and durability.

For further adding horsepower Type R's engine features a 5 speed manual transmission and a new limited slip differential. It produces 195 horsepower at 8000 rpm and 130 lbs ft of torque at 7300 rpm. It was the most powerful engine produced for United States from 1997 to 1998.

Integra Type R's key performance features include:

  • reinforced unit body structure
  • overall vehicle weight reduced by 93 Ibs. (42 kg)
  • refined anti-lock braking system (ABS)
  • an exhaust system with a larger diameter to allow larger volume flow
  • lower overall vehicle height (by 15 mm)
