Acura EL Introduction
Honda produced an entry level vehicle in the year of 1997 as a compact entry level luxury car and it was sold in Canada only. The car was sold from 1997 to 2005 and it has two different generations. Since Civic is the best car sold in Canada, Acura EL was Acura's top seller in Canada.
All the EL models of Acura were built in Ontario at Honda's Alliston, the Canada plant and it is the first Acura model built in Canada. First generation version of Acura El was the rebadged model of Japanese Honda Domani. It was introduced in 1996 as a 1997 model and sold as Acura 1.6EL.
The idetification was based on indicative of its 1.6 L engine producing power of 127 hp (94 kW), engine displacement and use of Honda's VTEC valve timing control system. The featured luxury trimmings are only available in as a four door sedan and not vilable on the similar nodel of Honda, Civic.
In 2000 The EL was totally redesigned on the basis of seventh generation Civic as a 2001 model. Additionally the more powerful and torquier VTEC-equipped 1.7 L 4-cylinder SOHC engine, classifiable headlight an taillight designs and leather interior trimmings put Acura EL apart from the Civic. The engine size was dropped from the 2005 model.
The car simply changed its badge from 1.7EL to EL. The Acura EL was replaced for the 2006 model year by the Acura CSX, based on the redesigned 2006 Honda Civic. As EL is available only in Canada, the CSX is also available only in Canada.
